The regional heat of a consumer challenge quiz is set to be held this week (24th February) at Greenfields School and Sports College in Northampton with local students battling to go through to the regional and ultimately the national finals.

This is the fifth year that Northamptonshire County Council’s trading standards service has organised the local heat of the consumer challenge quiz, which is aimed at raising awareness of consumer issues with students with moderate learning difficulties between 14 and 17 years of age.

This year, four county schools will be entering a total of seven teams of four students: Friars School (Wellingborough), Northgate and Greenfields schools (Northampton) and Wren Spinney School (Kettering).

The quiz aims to raise awareness of consumer issues in a fun way. The question material used is colourful and interactive and the quiz is devised so that there is always a choice of answers so as to avoid putting too much stress on the teams. Anna Murby (former BBC Radio Northampton presenter) will be leading the teams through the questions.

Councillor Andre Gonzalez de Savage, county council cabinet member for customers and community services said: “I wish all everyone taking part lots of luck. The quiz will be great fun and a chance for everyone taking part to show off their consumer knowledge and maybe learn something new as well.”

The winning team will be invited to take part in the East Midlands regional final being held at the National Space centre, Leicester on the 10th March. The winners of the regional final will go forward to the national final to be held at the annual trading standards conference in Edinburgh in June.
