The Northamptonshire Children’s University will today (FRI 2nd July) be hosting a celebration event for students across the county where young people will be awarded certificates for participating in either 30 hours (bronze) or 65 hours (silver) out-of-hours learning activities.

The event takes place at the University of Northampton in two sessions, 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.:

  • the 2:00 p.m. session will involve students from Oakway Junior in Wellingborough, Exeter Primary school in Corby and Northampton’s Simon de Senlis, Spring Lane Primary and East Hunsbury Primary schools.
  • At 6:00 p.m., most students will be from Corby Business Academy and Kingsthorpe College. There will also be students from Y-Not arts (part of the Music & Performing arts Service), representing Southfield School for Girls, Kettering; Simon de Senlis; Green Oaks; Northampton School for Girls; Northgate; Friars School, Wellingborough; Greenfields School and Thorplands.

Cllr. Ann Brown, Mayor of Corby will be attending the at 6:00 p.m. in recognition of the number of Corby students who will be receiving their bronze and silver awards.

A total of 150 students will be receiving certificates, 10 of these will be receiving silver certificates and 140 bronze.

The Northamptonshire Children's University is an education scheme for schoolchildren that emphasises the fun element of learning and encompasses university-style freedom of choice. It is an extension of Northamptonshire County Council’s existing study support service where learning opportunities take place outside normal lessons and out of school hours.
