Northamptonshire County Council is continuing with its new programme of highways maintenance – which aims at improving the road network, making it more resilient to extreme weather conditions and to normal wear and tear deterioration.
The authority, along with its service provider MGWSP, has been carrying out more permanent repairs than before, investing in preventative maintenance to slow further deterioration and concentrating on localised road patching.
The improved integrity of the highway will make it more resistant to wear and tear and the effects of severe winter conditions. In the long-term this will prove to be far more effective and offer better value for money for the taxpayer as on average five times more improvement can be realised by preventative treatment as opposed to reactive maintenance of defects.
The overriding commitment from the council and its service provider is to continue to attend and repair all emergency defects in the county and ensure that the roads and pavements are safe at all times.
Work taking place in the county between August 23 and September 5
Footway works (weather dependent):
Slurry sealing is a thin layer of a bitumen material (tar) with stone added, which dries within a few hours after completion to provide a new top surface on pavements. This prolongs its life and improves water resistance.
