Northamptonshire County Council’s gritting crews will travel out at 7:00 p.m. today to treat the precautionary network to keep the county’s major routes clear.
The snowdesk is still in operation, and crews have today been out replenishing grit bins where necessary.
Air temperatures overnight are set to drop to minus 5C with road temperatures due to fall to minus 6C.
The forecast is for some clear spells this evening with a low risk of a light snow shower at about 5:00 p.m.
From about 10:00 p.m., outbreaks of snow, freezing rain and rain are expected to spread from the west. This should move away by around 5:00 a.m.
With road surface temperatures in most places below zero through this time, it will turn very icy. A few spots in the south may see road temperatures creep above zero for a time later in the night, although as skies clear towards dawn, they are likely to drop back below zero. However, most places are likely to remain below zero.
The county council’s website has the gritting routes shown and advice for drivers and pedestrians.
