Update 4th March 2010

Following the incident at Woodland Close yesterday, members of the fire and rescue service will be maintaining a presence in the area today. Firefighters will be offering local residents free home fire safety checks.

During a home fire safety check, fire and rescue service personnel will give important advice on how to prevent a fire and what to do if a fire breaks out in your home. Working smoke alarms save lives and as part of the home fire safety check the fire and rescue service will install smoke alarms if they are needed.

This is a FREE service. Anyone interested in arranging a free home fire safety check should contact 0800 38 999 50 or safetycheck@northantsfire.org.uk.

Update 3rd March 2010

Woodland Close, Northampton

Three appliances from Mereway, Moulton and the Mounts Fire Stations were mobilised to a report of a house fire in Woodland Close, Northampton just after 12noon on Wednesday 3rd March 2010.

The fire had been extinguished before the arrival of the fire and rescue service, but unfortunately one of the occupiers received some injuries whilst tackling the fire. Fire and rescue personnel assisted the Ambulance Service with first aid until the casualties were taken to hospital via ambulance.

We later received news that one of the casualty’s had died as a result of the incident, and our thoughts are with the family at this time.

A multi agency team is investigating the origin and cause of the fire at this present time and early indications are that the fire was caused accidentally by a chip pan left unattended.

The fire service is maintaining a presence in the area throughout the next two days. If local residents have any concerns they should speak to one of the firefighters in the area.
