This week, February 16, local young people with learning difficulties will take part in The Consumer Challenge Quiz helping to raise their awareness of consumer issues including what their rights are.

The quiz is in its sixth year and is being hosted by Northamptonshire County Council’s trading standards service. The teams face questions on a variety of subjects including, consumer rights, signs and symbols, organisations which can help, how to complain and food matters.

A total of 28 pupils aged 14 to 17 will make up seven teams from four schools across the county, Northgate and Greenfields School in Northampton, Wren Spinney School in Kettering and host Friars School in Wellingborough.

Teams will compete against each other and the top two winning teams will go on to the East Midlands Regional final at the Space centre, Leicester on 9th March. The winners of the Regional final will go forward to the National final held as part of the Trading Standards Institute Conference in June in Bournemouth.

Andre Gonzalez de savage county councillor for customers and communities said: “We are delighted to host this quiz for the sixth year running, it has proven to help some of the most vulnerable young people across the county by educating them on their rights as a consumer. It is also fantastic to see so many local businesses offering their support.”

The quiz will take place at Friars School, Wellingborough on 16th February. Former BBC radio Northampton breakfast show presenter, Anna Murby will be asking the questions and guests include, county councillors Andre Gonzalez de savage and Joan Kirkbride will also be attending.

Currently a number of local businesses are sponsoring the event and offering prizes including; Orchard House Foods, Northampton Football Club, The Castle Wellingborough, Ashbury Chocolates Ltd, Royal and Derngate, AMF Bowling, and Booker also Rushden and Diamonds Football Club and Northamptonshire Cricket Club.
