A new job fair is set to take place in Northampton next week (Friday 27th January) at Northamptonshire County Council’s Central Library.

The county council is working in partnership with Options 2 Training, Recruitment and Guidance to help support local people back to work during these difficult economic times, by delivering job support and training in libraries.

The free job fair – called Job Club Xtra – is designed for job seekers to meet with local companies to discuss job vacancies, work experience self-employment and volunteer placements.

So far several companies have signed up to take part including the Spirit Pub Company, national social care company The Mears Group and highways maintenance company MGWSP.

Councillor Heather Smith, cabinet member for customers services said: “As a county council we are working to find ways to support people during these difficult financial times and libraries have a vital role to play in this.

“Job Club Xtra will be a chance for real employers to meet potential new employees and for people in the county to learn about any opportunities that might be available to them. It builds on from the weekly job seeker drop-in session that already takes place at the Central Library on a Friday.

”If Job Club Xtra is a success we will look at running more events like this in the future. Libraries already have Free e-Fridays offering free internet access so people can research job vacancies and apply for jobs online. Plus we have Change! zones with information such as job seeking, skills improvement, business start up, financial advice and more."

The job fair will take place on Friday 27th January at the Central Library, Abington Street, Northampton from 10am to 2pm.
