10 July 2012

Aqua Latino fitness sessions, Asian make-up techniques and astronomy are just three of the 70 brand new adult learning courses organised by Northamptonshire County Council for people to gain a new skill or pick up an old hobby.

With over 710 courses in total, there’s something for everyone in the county’s adult learning programme which is now accepting enrolments for September.

Lines open today (Tuesday 10th July) for enrolments on the courses, which range from two hours to 34 weeks and are conveniently scheduled throughout the day, evening and weekends.

Councillor Andrew Grant, cabinet member for children, learning and skills, said: "It’s a great opportunity to meet new people who enjoy the same subject areas and have similar hobbies to you. We know from the feedback we get from the courses that the new skills acquired during the classes can give people more confidence or help improve a CV.

“As well as a raft of new courses, this year we’re piloting two new dance and fitness courses for adults with disabilities or learning difficulties who prefer to learn in small groups.”

The courses are available all around the county in various venues making the classes easily accessible; they also begin at different times throughout the year so people won’t miss out.

Courses are listed in sections including:
* Art, craft, photography and cookery
* Complementary health & wellbeing and exercise & fitness
* Horse riding and stable management
* ICT and Business & Marketing
* Languages

Enrolment couldn’t be easier with lines opening today (TUES) from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Reduced fees are available to many learners, with remitted fees for people on specific benefits as well as a bursary grant for people experiencing financial hardship.

People can see the full range of courses by picking up a brochure or visiting the council’s website www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/beinspired
