Parents of children due to start school in September have just over a week left to submit their applications.
Northamptonshire County Council is reminding all parents with children who turn four years old between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 to apply for their child’s primary school place before 5pm on Wednesday 15th January.
How to increase chances of getting preferred school
Councillor Catherine Boardman, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: "The admissions system gives families the chance to tell us which schools they’d prefer to send their children to.
“There are steps that parents can take to maximise their chances of getting a place at one of their preferred schools. Submitting an application form in time is the most crucial followed closely by nominating a second and third choice school.
“Every year we hear from disappointed parents who assumed they would automatically get a place at the school their older children already go to. We also have parents who didn’t apply on time and don’t understand why their child didn’t get a school place when someone who lives further down the road did.
“There no guarantees of getting a place at a preferred school but the chances of a successful application will be higher if parents tell us before the deadline which three schools they’d prefer.”
How to apply
Primary school applications can be submitted on the council website.
Families who submit an application on time will find out which school they have been allocated on 16 April. Applications received after the deadline will not be processed until the second wave of allocations which takes place from May 2014 onwards.
