Nominations are now open for this year’s Northamptonshire Youth Ambition Awards.

The annual awards are organised by Northamptonshire County Council to showcase some of the incredible achievements of young unsung heroes across Northamptonshire.

Last years Young Apprentice of the year winner Lufuidy Paxi.

Worthy winners

Last year’s winners included a pupil who started a support service for classmates who suffered from bullying and a group of students who distributed food to local homeless shelters and victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Lufuidy Paxi, a business administration apprentice with the British Footwear Association, won the Young Apprentice of the Year category last year.

Lufuidy, who is also an apprentice ambassador and gives talks to schools about the benefits of apprenticeships, said: “The highlight of the night wasn’t even winning the award, it was being around so many people that have been recognised as achievers and ambitious people.

“Therefore when my name was called as winner of the Young Apprentice of the Year, I was so shocked. There were so many amazing apprentices that were nominated I felt so privileged to be called the winner.”

The categories

The awards are run alongside Northamptonshire Newspapers’ Education Awards and consist of five categories:

  • Young apprentice of the year
  • The arts award
  • Young role model of the year
  • Project or campaign of the year
  • The taking charge of your life award

County council deputy leader and cabinet member for children’s services Cllr Heather Smith said: “The Youth Ambition Awards are always a truly memorable evening and it’s wonderful to hear about some of the fantastic things our young people are doing across the county.

“Previous winners have told us how much it means for their hard work to be recognised, so I would encourage anyone who knows of a child or young person who goes the extra mile to nominate them in one of the five categories.”

How to enter

The awards are open to young people aged 11 and above, and winners will be announced at a special ceremony on Wednesday 29 June at Wicksteed Park Pavilion.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 7 June. Full details about the award categories and how to nominate can be found on the Young Northants website.
